New Law in Britain – Sex with Trafficked Women will be Considered a Rape Offense

A new law is now effective in Britain. According to this law having sex with trafficked women has become illegal. Men caught with prostitutes who are forcefully brought into this profession or are controlled by pimps will be severely punished. There will be no excuse for men who after being caught say they were not aware of women forcefully working as prostitutes. The offense will be deemed as a rape case, carrying a life time imprisonment.

The act of forceful prostitution is referred as "a modern slave trade" and "victims of human trafficking" in Britain. The demand for prostitutes has shown significant growth and according to the record, at present there are 80,000 prostitutes in Britain. But this number comprises of trafficked women prostitutes as well as women who willingly opt to choose this path. Women from different professions are seen in this business. Teachers and students are no exceptions to it. Because of the increase in the demand for sex, more women are entering this profession. The Metropolitan police have estimated that 70% of the 88,000 women involved in prostitution in England and Wales are under the control of traffickers. Men are willing to pay good price for sex. Women are being exported from developing and underdeveloped countries and face a lot of torture in the foreign land. The home secretary of Britain, Jacqui Smith strongly feels that the new law will eventually reduce the demand for paid sex. She said "There is not a strong support at the moment for a total ban on prostitution in Britain."

The first time kerb crawlers will also be prosecuted. The powers of criminal courts, Act 2000 under section 146 also gives courts the right to seize their driving licenses. According to the law the kerb crawlers were initially sent to rehabilitation centers and asked to attend workshops to see the ugly realities of prostitution.

Prostitution was legally banned in Sweden when the government figured out there was 1,500 recorded prostitutes there. In Britain the number of sex workers is daunting.

My concern is men habituated to paid sex can get involved in domestic sexual harassment, domestic rapes or other domestic criminal acts. Legal system should keep this into consideration. Fort Lauderdale criminal lawyer said "The new law will help the trafficked women getting justice by sending them back to their homes". West Palm Beach Personal Injury Lawyer said "Government should start vocational programs to help these trafficked women find an alternate source of income. Independence comes with self sufficiency".

The theory of demand & supply makes sense.

What a disgrace that women are being trafficked to satisfy the uncontrolled sexual urges of men.

Thanks Cathy for creating a post on this issue and quoting me.

Buying & selling of sex is a big problem and leads to forceful prostitution. Yes together, we can educate people about it.
